Brick Testing

Compressive strength, water absorption, dimension tolerance, and efflorescence testing of bricks as per IS Codes.

Burnt clay brick under compressive strength testing in SLV Geotech laboratory

Service overview

Bricks are fundamental building materials that must meet specific quality requirements before use. Quality varies widely between kilns and even between batches from the same kiln, and problems such as weak bricks, heavy water absorption, or salt deposits usually appear only after the wall is built and plastered. Testing a sample before purchase avoids that.

Our brick testing services evaluate compressive strength, water absorption, dimensions, and efflorescence to check compliance with IS 3495 and the class requirements of IS 1077. Samples are selected as per IS 5454 so the result represents the full lot rather than a few hand picked pieces.

Quality tested bricks contribute to stronger, more durable, and longer lasting structures. Our reports are used by builders and contractors for kiln and supplier approval, and by government departments for routine quality control on public works.

Compressive strength

Crushing strength of the brick, which decides the class of the brick and the load the masonry can carry.

Water absorption

Absorption after 24 hour immersion, a direct indicator of how well the brick was burnt and how it will handle damp.

Dimension tolerance

Length, width, and height checked over a group of bricks, since oversized variation increases mortar use and wall thickness.

Efflorescence

Soluble salt content assessed by controlled drying, to predict the white patches that damage plaster and paint later.
